The typical temperature for hot-melt adhesive curing is approximately 200°C. It is important to note that epoxy ovens and hot-melt ovens are not interchangeable; using the wrong oven can damage the adhesive or connector ferrule . This process ensures a strong bond between the fiber and ferrule, minimizing signal loss and preventing fiber movement.Epoxy/Polish ConnectorsFor factory-terminated connectors using epoxy, the adhesive is cured in an oven designed for epoxy, which is generally lower than hot-melt temperatures. The epoxy forms a small bead at the ferrule end, which is then polished to achieve low-loss, high-reliability connections. Proper curing and polishing are critical for singlemode fibers to maintain low reflectance and minimal insertion loss .Fusion SplicingFusion splicing does not rely on adhesives but instead uses an electric arc to melt the ends of two fibers together, creating a continuous optical path. The exact temperature is controlled by the fusion splicer and is sufficient to melt the glass without causing microfractures. After splicing, a heat-shrink splice protection sleeve is applied and baked in the splicer's internal oven to form a rigid, waterproof shield .Cold SplicingCold splicing, in contrast, does not involve melting.
