An optical transmitter primarily consists of a light source, optical modulator, driver circuitry, and supporting components to convert electrical signals into optical signals for transmission.Key Components1. Light Source (Laser or LED) The light source generates the optical carrier signal. Common types include:DFB (Distributed Feedback) Laser: Provides precise wavelength stability, ideal for long-distance high-speed transmission .VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser): Compact and cost-effective, suitable for short-range, high-speed applications like data centers .DML (Direct Modulation Laser): Simple and small, used for medium-speed applications . LEDs are also used in some systems for lower-cost, lower-speed transmission . 2. Optical Modulator The modulator imposes the electrical data signal onto the light wave.
