Common intrinsic models include:Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG): These sensors reflect specific wavelengths of light that shift in response to strain or temperature changes, making them ideal for structural health monitoring, aerospace, and civil engineering applications .Raman and Brillouin Scattering Sensors: These distributed sensors measure temperature and strain along the fiber length by analyzing scattered light .Interferometric Sensors: Types include Mach–Zehnder, Michelson, and Sagnac interferometers, which detect phase changes caused by environmental variations such as vibration, pressure, or refractive index changes .Extrinsic Optical Fiber SensorsExtrinsic sensors use the fiber only as a light guide, with the sensing occurring outside the fiber. Light modulation is performed by an external transducer.
