The sensors are highly sensitive, immune to electromagnetic interference, and capable of long-distance signal transmission, making them suitable for applications in biomedical monitoring, aerospace, industrial automation, and oil and gas exploration .Factors Affecting AccuracyThe accuracy of fiber optic pressure sensors depends on several factors:Sensor design and structure: Mechanical amplification structures, such as diaphragms, levers, or elastic membranes, enhance sensitivity and reduce measurement error. For example, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors embedded in diaphragms can achieve sensitivities ranging from 43.7 to 175.5 pm/kPa, depending on diaphragm thickness .Pressure range: Accuracy can vary across the measurement range. In vitro testing of RJC fiber optic sensors showed that at a pressure of 37 mmHg, the accuracy was approximately 1.9%, while higher pressures may slightly reduce precision .Environmental conditions: Extreme temperatures, mechanical vibrations, or multi-parameter cross-sensitivity can affect sensor performance, requiring careful calibration and packaging .Experimental Accuracy DataControlled experiments with intravascular fiber optic sensors demonstrated high precision. The results indicated minimal variation between sensors and high repeatability, confirming that fiber optic sensors can reliably capture continuous pressure waveforms with low error margins .Practical ImplicationsDue to their high sensitivity and low error rates, fiber optic pressure sensors are particularly valuable in applications requiring precise pressure monitoring:Medical: Continuous blood pressure or intracranial pressure monitoring.Aerospace: Engine health and cabin pressure monitoring.Industrial: Downhole pressure monitoring in oil and gas, pipeline leak detection.Environmental: Oceanic and dam pressure monitoring . In summary, fiber optic pressure sensors offer high accuracy, typically within 1–2% under controlled conditions, with performance influenced by sensor design, pressure range, and environmental factors. Their combination of precision, EMI immunity, and compact design makes them highly suitable for critical monitoring applications across multiple industries .
