How to connect the pigtail fiber to the BBU

How to connect the pigtail fiber to the BBU

To connect a BBU pigtail fiber, you need to fusion splice the bare fiber end of the pigtail to the incoming fiber and then plug the connector end into the BBU or ONT port.Step 1: Prepare Your Tools and WorkspaceEnsure you have a fusion splicer, fiber strippers, cleaver, isopropyl alcohol wipes, and the fiber pigtail ready. Work in a clean, dust-free environment to prevent contamination, which can cause signal loss .Step 2: Prepare the FiberStrip the protective coating from the incoming fiber using a fiber stripper.Clean the exposed fiber with isopropyl alcohol to remove any debris.Cleave the fiber end with a precision cleaver to create a flat, smooth surface for splicing .Step 3: Splice the PigtailInsert the bare end of the fiber pigtail and the prepared incoming fiber into the fusion splicer.Align the fibers and initiate the splicing process. The splicer uses an electric arc to fuse the fibers, creating a low-loss, permanent connection .Once fused, place the splice in a splice tray for protection.Step 4: Connect to the BBUTake the factory-terminated connector end of the pigtail and plug it into the BBU or ONT fiber port.Ensure the connection is secure and that the BBU is powered off during installation to prevent electrical issues .Step 5: Test the ConnectionUse an optical power meter or OTDR to verify the splice and connector performance.Check for low insertion loss and confirm that the BBU recognizes the fiber link.Additional TipsAvoid bending the fiber sharply; maintain a minimum bend radius to prevent signal degradation.Label the pigtail and fiber strands for future maintenance. If replacing a BBU battery or unit, follow the manufacturer's instructions for safely disconnecting and reconnecting the power while handling the fiber . By following these steps, you ensure a reliable, low-loss fiber connection between the incoming fiber and the BBU, maintaining network performance and backup functionality.
