For example, a percentage-differential relay protects the stator windings by comparing currents at both ends and tripping the main circuit breaker if a fault occurs, while an overvoltage relay can detect ground faults when the neutral is grounded through a resistor, ensuring rapid isolation of the generator to prevent damage and maintain system stability .Transformer ProtectionTransformers are protected using relays that prevent overheating, short circuits, and winding faults. Small transformers (up to 2 MVA) may rely on power fuses, while larger transformers (over 10 MVA) use percentage-differential relays with harmonic restraint.
